The Best for Bedford

Lembit Opik helped launch Christine McHugh's campaign and manifesto "The Best for Bedford" at her campaign launch on Monday. The Liberal Democrat candidate for Bedford Mayor launched her manifesto looking for real action for Bedford, with a core of pledges - The Three Zeros.

The Three Zeros - Zero Tolerance of Neglect, Zero Waste and Zero Tax Rise are targeted on delivering real results to Bedford people.

Zero Tax Rise promises no increase in Bedford Boroughs Council Tax for next year, recognising that Bedford tax payers deserve a respite following years of tax rises and little to show for it.

Zero Waste aims to tackle Bedford's appalling record on waste and recycling through a wide range of specific measures.

And Zero Tolerance of Neglect targets the removal of the culture of decline that can drag an area down. Graffiti, dumping, litter and abandoned cars in an area breed more of the same. Christine plans to reverse that cycle, with areas seeing positive improvements through the fast removal of graffiti, dumped cars, litter and dealing with vandalism.
