Bedford and Kempston Liberal Democrats: Putting People First in Bedford and Kempston - All Year Round.

First Stop Bedford For New MP

4.47.10pm UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 1st Jun 2005

Dan Rogerson, newly elected Lib Dem MP for North Cornwall will be back in Bedford this Thursday, to celebrate his election success and thank the people who put him on the political trail.

His visit to Bedford will be his first visit outside of his constituency since being elected. Bedford has particular relevance for Dan as he was first elected a councillor here in 1999, sweeping to victory on a swing of 27 percent, in what was formerly the safe Labour seat of Kingsbrook. Dan went on to become Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrat group on the council before returning to Cornwall where he fought the General Election in May.

Dan is using his visit to meet many of his supporters in Kingsbrook and thank them for setting him on the road to Westminster. He'll also be meeting with Liberal Democrats from across the County to discuss his success.

Speaking ahead of his arrival, Kingsbrook Councillor Dave Hodgson said:

"It's great to have Dan back in Bedford if only for a few days. What he achieved in Kingsbrook was just a taste of the success he would go onto. I think everybody will agree with me that Dan was an excellent councillor who was widely respected throughout the council and in the local community. His return will give him the opportunity to thank those residents of Kingsbrook who supported him when he started his political career and catch up with the many old faces he has missed since leaving Bedford."
