Bedford Borough residents now have the choice between a wheeled bin and an orange sack for recycling to be collected

Bedford Borough Liberal Democrats have welcomed the introduction of orange-lidded bins for recycling collections for those residents who want them.

Commenting, Bedford Borough Liberal Democrat Group Leader Cllr Michael Headley said:

"We are very pleased that at long last residents will have the option of a recycling bin. I have been pushing for this for many years on the waste partnership. For many people, bins will be much more convenient. However, it is crucial that residents are not forced into having another bin, as the County Council wanted to do by taking away the option of a sack. It is right that people can choose what is best for them.

"Now the council needs to improve the scheme by expanding the range of items that can be recycled such as fruit juice packs and different types of plastic."
