Lib Dems Win De Parys, Putnoe and Brickhill Wards2.40.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 5th Jun 2009
The Liberal Democrats have won De Parys Ward in the Bedford Borough Elections, after David Sawyer almost doubled the vote of his Conservative opponent in the Ward, which had been a split Lib Dem/Tory ward before it was reduced to a single seat. David Sawyer will now be the sole Councillor for the urban Bedford ward, after a thumping victory in which he finished nearly four hundred votes clear of his Conservative opponent. The Lib Dems also achieved emphatic victories over the Conservatives in taking Putnoe and Brickhill Wards, with four hardworking Liberal Democrat Cllrs elected across the two wards. Michael Headley and Sallyanne Smith were returned in Putnoe, while Charles Royden and new Councillor Wendy Rider were elected to the two seats in the previously split Lib Dem/Tory Ward.
