Innovative Trial Sees Waste Chip Fat Used to Resurface Road in Bedford1.44.34pm GMT Fri 18th Dec 2009
Mayor Dave Hodgson and Deputy Mayor Charles Royden attended an innovative trial at Everard Road in Goldington on Tuesday, as an environmentally friendly product using waste vegetable oil was used for road resurfacing. The trial substituted the usual binding substance for Vegetex, which uses recycled vegetable oil, cutting the carbon footprint of works with no loss of quality. Commenting, Mayor Dave Hodgson said: "We are always looking for more environmentally sustainable methods of working, and this innovation certainly fits that bill. Residents will know that this year we have put extra funding into road repairs in a drive to improve streets and pavements across the Borough. As in all other areas we will continue to work as sustainably as possible, both in environmental and financial terms, so I look forward to finding out about the results of this trial with interest."
